Hello, my name is Dan Hegarty and I am currently working in the Information Security field with 10+ years of experience in the computer industry. Information Security is a challenging and ever changing environment, something that keeps me on my toes.

I started my adult life by joining the Army and becoming a tank mechanic. I knew next to nothing about being a mechanic so I figured it was great challenge. In hindsight it was an excellent experience, but while I was serving I would have given you an different answer.

After my discharge, I took a position as a help desk support. From there I have worked my way up to Senior Systems Administrator for Sun Solaris, into a Security Engineer and now a Security Analyst for a major Law firm.

I specialize in risk analyst, security reporting and general out of the box problem solving. I use many tools both proprietary and open source. My first choice is always searching for an open source solution so I trend to focus on Linux/UNIX operating systems as my primary platform to work in.

I love scripting and finding out of the box solutions to help secure networks. I do program but its more of a tool box approach than a full time profession.
